Meet Brian!

Brian Luu – Group Fitness Trainer

Brian has been teaching group fitness for 6 years now and currently serves as the Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness over at UC Davis.

As a survivor of an eating disorder and as someone who didn’t originally grow up with an emphasis on regular physical activity in his life, he understands the apprehension that comes with taking that first step towards starting a wellness program.

That is why body positive, rapport, and reliability are the main components in Brian’s practices within the fitness realm. To him, everyone has what it takes to be strong and healthy. He already sees that in everyone; it’s a matter of helping them see that in themselves.

With the cheerleader mentality of a group fitness instructor combined with the coaching mindset of a personal trainer, Brian always aims to teach a class that is fun, safe, and empowering for anyone, regardless of where they are in their fitness and wellness journey.

Brian’s Wellness Profile:

What Sets Inspired Wellness Apart?
Inspired Wellness is a family. I felt that way when I walked through those doors the first time, and I feel that way when I walk through those doors now. Not only do we foster physical wellness, but we foster emotional, social, and many other aspects of wellness too. It’s not just a place to come and get a workout. It’s a community of people who wants nothing more than to cheer you on and support you.

Overall Wellness Philosophy:
It’s never about how you look but how you FEEL. Attitude is everything when it comes to living a healthy life. If you believe you can do it, then you WILL do it. We can be our own worst critic sometimes, but we also have the choice to be our own best friend. Also, have fun with it! Life is serious enough. You’ll adhere more to it if you find something you enjoy within it.

Favorite Workout Tunes:
I am all over the place on this one. As an aerobics instructor at heart, pop songs with a prominent beat will always be my go-to. I am also very partial to 90s music because those were my jams during my developmental years. If you’ve taken my class, you will notice I play around with different playlists on a weekly basis. Sometimes, it’s a list of top 40 radio hits, sometimes it sounds like we’re in a dance club. But give me a request, and I’ll accommodate!

Latest Accomplishment:
Managed to fundraise (through the help of many generous donors) $3,485 for the American Cancer Society through their Relay For Life event. This year was my 10th year participating in that event.

Teaching Style In 3 Words:
Happy, Silly, Energetic

Favorite Exercises:
Squats, Push-ups (Love/Hate Relationship), Plank

Hobbies:
Reading young adult fiction, following men’s and women’s fashion, binge-watching BuzzFeed videos on YouTube, Relay For Life, brunch

Favorite Wellness Quote:
“Remember, TODAY is the TOMORROW you worried about YESTERDAY.”
