Doing This FIRST Thing In The Morning Can Change Everything

I’ve had a thyroid disease for several years now, something called Hashimotos. Among the things I’ve learned is how to properly take my thyroid hormone each morning. I was surprised to find that 16 ounces of water helps it get properly absorbed in my system.

Prior to this, I always knew in the back of my mind that starting the day with water (and perhaps some lemon + cayenne pepper) is great for the digestive system. But guess what else it’s good for?

MINDSET!

That’s right, starting your day with 16 ounces of water is not only incredibly good for your body – it also has a profound effect on a positive mindset throughout the day.

I’m sure you’re familiar with the health benefits of water (keep reading to learn all about water’s health benefits!!), but the mindset piece takes the cake for several reasons.

A study in England found that ONE SMALL THING (such as drinking a glass of water) each day sets off a cascade effect that helps you carve out new habits for a lifetime!

The goal of the study was to assist health workers in providing better guidance to their patients with how to create a healthier lifestyle.

They determined that the formation of one small healthy habit each day increases self-confidence and motivates us to work toward other healthy habits.

Think about it: when you master a new habit, there’s a powerful trait that’s born called SELF-EFFICACY.

What’s that mean? It’s your personal belief in yourself that you CAN accomplish your goals (and ANYTHING you set your mind to!).

John Maxwell calls it “The Law of Consistency”. The more you follow through with what you commit to, the more you start to learn about and trust yourself. This is turn helps you create powerful intentions and conquer habits that stick.

A small glass of water in the morning may seem like a tiny detail that doesn’t mean much, but it’s actually a BIG win because it increases your chance of success tenfold.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE: try to focus on DOING one thing (such as drinking water) versus NOT DOING something (ex: not eating processed foods). You can’t make a habit of NOT doing something 😉

Now that you know why this new habit should be a mainstay in your life, let’s quickly review the benefits of our friend H20:

  • Drinking water helps boost your metabolism.
  • Staying hydrated keeps your appetite at bay and reduces the chance of boredom/emotional eating.
  • Helllooo better digestion. Drinking water helps with that, too.
  • Mental focus and alertness improve with hydration.
  • Your workouts are more impactful.
  • Your skin has better tone (think: “plumper”).

Fun fact: a small 2% decrease can have an impact on how you feel and move!

Here’s a fun way to think about hydration: just like a wilting houseplant that springs back to life when you give it a big drink of water, your body – which, by the way, is comprised of 55 to 60% water – appreciates being refreshed with water, too!

Now that you’re on your way to being a well-hydrated morning-water-drinking superstar, let us help you take it even further! Curious to know if lack of water can cause bloated feelings…or is that possibly dinner from the night before? Hoping that my diet shift will help ease my symptoms of acid reflux. Also, I’d love to hear people’s opinions on what TYPE of water to drink i.e. is tap okay? Should I get distilled water? Goal for this month is to get a water infuser bottle so I can enjoy the flavor of water a little more.
