What’s your favorite wellness quote?
“It is health that is real wealth; not pieces of gold and silver”. -Mahatma Gandhi followed by “Of all of the forms of inequality injustice in healthcare is the most shocking and inhumane” -Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

What are some of your favorite exercises?
I like push-ups because you can do them anywhere and they help me when I’m feeling antsy before sleep. I also like squats not because I’m good at them but because they challenge me.

What motivates you to stay healthy?
My partner Christina. She has Multiple Sclerosis and gives her all during workouts. She reminds me that movement is not a guarantee.

What do you do to stay balanced in your daily life (hobbies)?
I educate myself. Awareness is the key to any kind of balance.

If this food/meal were the last available on Earth and you were the lucky recipient, what would it be?
Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich!

What are three of your upcoming goals NOW, in one year and in five years?
Show up and make time for what’s important. My schedule as a music professor makes it very hard to stay on top of self-practice and rehearsal. My goal is to play music every day. I have to make the things that matter the most to me a priority. Music, Health, and protecting people’s human rights. That’s my goal for the next couple of years.

What are some songs currently on your playlist?
Gey up, Stand Up – Bob Marley. Imagine – John Lennon, More-Cormega, American Idiot – Green Day

What do you do for fun locally?
Ride my bike on the American River Bike trail with my partner Christina and friends.

Describe yourself in 3 words:
Benevolent, Persevering, Contemplative.

How has Inspired Wellness impacted your life?
Prior to strength training with Inspired Wellness I had a chronic lower back problem. I had taken pills, visited the chiropractor and physical therapy. All of these things were great at helping me manage current pain but none helped prevent the pain. Strengthening my lower body (glutes, quads, hamstrings, etc.) have changed my life. I almost never experience the same lower back pain that I did before. Finding my strength at this gym has changed my life for the better.
